New Layer 1 Gigachain Debuts Trustless Parallel Execution to Break Blockchain's Sequential Barrier

Gigachain Protocol Revolutionizes Blockchain Scalability

Hong Kong, China, May 23rd, 2025, Chainwire – The newly introduced Gigachain Protocol is set to redefine complex, high-computation applications that traditional blockchain systems have struggled to support. Gigachain Labs has launched this innovative Layer 1 blockchain, bolstered by support from Presto Labs and nurtured by the Telos Foundation, to offer a solution that empowers trustless parallel execution.

Addressing Limitations of Traditional Blockchains

Historically, blockchain networks have been designed to handle transactions sequentially, leading to each validator needing to process the entire network’s transaction load. This model has significantly restricted the performance potential of these chains, complicating efforts to achieve meaningful scalability beyond basic transactions. In response, many chains have resorted to off-chain solutions, often sacrificing decentralization, security, and overall user experience in the process.

Innovative Approach to Transaction Processing

Gigachain’s approach to trustless parallel execution shifts the focus from merely measuring transaction speed to assessing transaction weight. While traditional metrics emphasize Transactions Per Second (TPS), Gigachain introduces Instructions Per Second (IPS) as a more comprehensive metric that gauges the computational capacity of a blockchain. The platform is engineered to exceed 61 billion IPS, representing a staggering 500 times improvement over multi-thread execution models like Solana and over 10,000 times enhancement compared to Ethereum’s sequential processing.

Efficient Transaction Management

The Gigachain protocol organizes transactions into batches that do not conflict, allowing for parallel execution and verification across various decentralized entities. These batch proofs are then consolidated into a single proof to validate the entire block. This methodology not only distributes the execution workload efficiently but also eliminates redundant processing, thereby enhancing blockchain throughput without compromising on decentralization.

Redefining Blockchain Scaling Challenges

“Current discussions on blockchain scaling tend to focus on theoretical TPS figures, overlooking the core issue,” stated Alberto Garoffolo, CTO of Gigachain. “Global computation occurs in parallel across numerous machines and cores. Maintaining a sequential approach in blockchain will not facilitate scalability. Gigachain finally enables trustless parallel execution.”

Strategic Positioning for Future Blockchain Applications

By addressing the challenges of decentralized computational scaling, Gigachain aspires to become a foundational infrastructure for future blockchain applications. The project is spearheaded by a team of veterans from IOHK and the Telos Foundation, including Alberto Garoffolo, a recognized figure in zk-SNARK technologies and decentralized blockchain scaling. The team is further strengthened by experts such as Paolo Tagliaferri, Ljubiša Isaković, Marco Olivero, Daniele Di Tullio, and Momčilo Miladinović.

Upcoming Launch Plans

Garoffolo unveiled the Gigachain protocol during a live session at zkSummit13 on May 12, 2025. Gigachain is set to launch its testnet in 2026, with the mainnet scheduled for 2027.
